Worried About Screen Time? Don't Let Kids Go It Alone

Good morning,

As you may or may not know, Linder Educational Coaching is a small business focused on bringing the highest quality and satisfaction to our clients.  Our specialty is working with students with ADD, ADHD, other LDs, behavioral issues and problems with executive functioning.

We provide a comprehensive answer to families with students. We provide three main areas of service: private coaching, an after school program called The Hub, and workshops. In all of these areas we focus on organization, planning for the week and month, study skills, test-taking skills, subject comprehension, and independence. One of the tools we use in achieving this success for our students is using tablets and online learning. With many schools in the area using some form of tablet or computer in the classrooms, it's important that your student is able to properly learn on these devices without the distractions.

In this article from npr.org, entitled ' Worried About Screen Time? Don't Let Kids Go It Alone,' the author talks about how tablet learning for two-and-three-year olds on their own, versus with help from an in-person tutor,  makes a huge difference in their ability to learn and pick up the task.

"The ease with which we use technology makes us forget that this is really a fairly complex tool. If we think about how many hours each of us as adults spend with technology each day, and if you just add that up over at least 10 years, this is thousands of hours that we spent learning how to use this technology. These babies are only 2 years old, so their amount of experience using the tools is relatively limited. The fact that they don't just learn everything like magic from these tools means that they require someone to help them with this experience."

Here at Linder Education, we work with our students to help them learn to use technology tools the right way and enhance their learning instead of hindering it. If you are a parent who wants help with your child, we are here! Contact us today at www.lindereducationalcoaching.com

'Three Simple Steps to Mastering Any Subject' and Different Ways to Learn

Here at Linder Educational Coaching we implement and try a variety of learning methods catered to each and every one of our students. Everyone learns differently and it's important to recognize how each student learns best so they can reach their full potential. In this excellent article from www.qz.com entitled ' A Nobel prize-winning physicist identified three simple steps to mastering any subject' one such learning method from Nobel Prize-winning physicist Richard Feynman is closely examined.

(Reuters/Juan Medina)
"Richard Feynman understood the difference between “knowing something” and “knowing the name of something,” and it’s one of the most important reasons for his success.' He goes on to explain that 'a lot of people tend to use complicated vocabulary and jargon to mask when they don’t understand something. The problem is we only fool ourselves because we don’t know that we don’t understand. In addition, using jargon conceals our misunderstanding from those around us.' He also touches upon the fact that 'competence is knowing the limit of your abilities."  Learn more about the Feynman Method of learning and how it can help your student, visit the full article here.

Strategies to Help Students ‘Go Deep’ When Reading Digitally

Good morning!

Today we are sharing another article from ww2.kqed.org about something that not only teachers, but parents are facing with today's education: digital reading.

Erin Scott/MindShift
"Students are doing more reading on digital devices than they ever have before. Not only are many teachers using tablets and computers for classroom instruction, but many state tests are now administered on computers, adding incentive for teachers to teach digital reading strategies. But casual digital reading on the internet has instilled bad habits in many students, making it difficult for them to engage deeply with digital text in the same way they do when reading materials printed on paper." (Strategies to Help Students ‘Go Deep’ When Reading Digitally

Reading comprehension strategies, both traditional and digital, are something we can help your child with here at Linder Educational Coaching. With private coaching options, peer environment options at "The Hub" and summer academic workshops we have a solution to help your child succeed!  For more information please visit:   http://www.linderec.com/ or contact Kristin at: Kristin@LinderEC.com.

How Parents And Teachers Can Nurture The 'Quiet Power' Of Introverts

Good morning,

Today we are sharing an article from npr.org entitled 'How Parents And Teachers Can Nurture The 'Quiet Power' Of Introverts.' Here at Linder Educational Coaching, we see all types of children through our programs, many of them being introverts. As the article explains,

"Introverts often are really amazing, talented, gifted, loving children, and they feel like there's something wrong with them," she says. "And our mission is to make it so that the next generation of kids does not grow up feeling that way."

If your child is an introvert and you want to find help so that they can shine in school, we are here! We provide a comprehensive answer to families with students. We provide three main areas of service: private coaching, an after school program called The Hub, and workshops. In all of these areas we focus on organization, planning for the week and month, study skills, test-taking skills, subject comprehension, and independence. For many families, this is a welcome answer to the stress school has brought into the home. Our coaches talk with teachers to make sure our methods are effective and to gain an understanding of each child in and out of the classroom. We work closely with the parents to structure a study system that works in their home and with their family schedule. Every week, we work to assure all homework is done, tests are prepared for, and material is understood.

"In practice, many introverted children are also shy, but many are not, and you can also have children that are quite extroverted but who are shy, and as soon as they overcome their shyness, you see them being in the middle of the big gang. So it's really important when you're working with children to understand what is actually happening inside them so that you make sure that you're responding to the right thing."
