Benefits of Private Tutoring

If your child is struggling in school, the answer may very well be private tutoring. When you hire a private tutor for your child, you are essentially investing in an individual teacher who’s going to be dedicated to meeting your child’s specific learning needs. Private tutors can assist in so many different ways, from helping your child get through homework, to catching them up with the rest of the class, to getting them through difficult topics or subject material. Here are some of the benefits of arranging private tutoring for your child.

Fewer distractions. Sometimes, a child who is struggling is simply easily distracted and has a harder time focusing in the classroom setting due to noise and the other children in the room. In contrast, private tutoring is conducted in a much more controlled environment (often the home), giving your child a better opportunity to focus. In addition, the one-on-one structure of private tutoring can facilitate a mentor-protégé relationship, which can be a huge motivation for some children and also improve comprehension and retention of information.

Greater focus on problem areas. Often, children struggle not so much with a single subject but rather with certain topics within that subject. Therefore, a child may be competent in math overall but be lost when it comes to fractions or calculus. A private tutor will be able to identify these weaknesses and focus the lessons accordingly. Another common cause of difficulty in school is when a child has somehow missed some key points that are holding them back from understanding more advanced concepts. Again, private tutors will be able to pinpoint these specific areas and get your child back on the road to success.

Stylistic compatibility. Every teacher has a different style and way of working, and the reality is that not every classroom teacher is going to work well with your child. But with private tutoring, you’re able to handpick the best fit for your kid, someone who has the experience, teaching approach, and personality that complements the learning needs of your child. And if you have a child with ADD or a learning disability, you can even find a tutor who specializes in working within that set of circumstances.

Flexibility. A private tutor will be able to work with your child at their individual pace and level. Your child’s tutor will be able to determine the teaching methods that work best. Every child is different, but a private tutor can develop the approach that best meets your child’s individual needs and capabilities.
